Jim was an avid golfer his whole life. As he got older, his eyes started to go bad and he couldn't follow the flight of the ball any more. Not wanting to give the game up, he went to his optometrist.
After the eye exam the doctor told him there wasn't anything he could do for Jim's eyes. Jim pleaded "Please doctor, do something. I can't give up playing golf!"
The doctor told Jim about Bob. Bob was a 97 year old man who could see like an eagle. The doctor suggested that Bob could help Jim by spotting his ball for him as he hit it. At first Jim was skeptical, but still wanted to try the idea.
Jim called Bob to see if he would go along with the idea of being a spotter. "Absolutely" said Bob. "I can see like an eagle"
The next day Jim got to the course early to memorize license plate numbers. As Bob arrived, Jim started to test his eyesight by asking Bob to give him the license plate numbers of the cars in the parking lot over 300 yards away. Bob got every one right. Jim was excited that this 97 year old man could see that good, and this spotting idea was going to work.
Jim and Bob went to the first tee together, and Jim, because he was without worry about seeing the flight of his ball, hit one of the best drives of his life.
Jim then turns to Bob and asks "Did you see that drive, Bob?"
Bob replies "Sure did. It was beautiful! Long and straight."
Jim asks "Where did it go?"
Bob says "I forget."
